Born in Chennai to middle class parents on 8th November 1983. Lakshmi Priya has a natural desire for dance from her childhood. She was initiated into Bharatha Natyam by her Mentor & Guru Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan at a tender age of six. Ever since joining Sri Devi Nrithyalaya, she has been undergoing systematic and rigorous training in Bhrathanatyam under the tutelage of guru. Smt. Sheela. She is sincere and has total dedication to the guru.

Lakshmi Priya has participated in several programmes conducted by the Nrityalaya and was widely appreciated. She has done main roles in her teacher's ballets and other dance choreographies. She has done the role of Vishwamithrar in “Bala Ramayanam” and the tole of Rukmini in” Sri Krishna Karnamrutham”.

She also participates in other dancing companies' performances. She has danced with Anusham group, Vaijayanthimala Bali's group, Sri. Madurai R.Muralidharan's group, Madhuranthi's group.

Apart from Bharatantyam, she is learning Kuchipudi under Guru Sri Kishore.

Lakshmi Priya has won several prizes and certificates of merits by taking part in dance competitions conducted by various institutions:

 
  1. II prizes in Bharatanatyam & Kuchipudi in All-India level competition and I prize in the State level competition conducted by BSNL Cultural and Sports Wing
  2. Privilege award of Padma Subramaniam Natya Award during 2000 – 2001 conducted by Nehru Children Association.
  3. The first prize in the district and state level competitions conducted by jawajar Bala Bhawan in 1999 – 2000.
  4. Natyakala Rathna by South Indian Cultural.
  5. Thaver Sanskriti Award by Rajasthan Association during 2003.
  6. First prize in “Thaka Dhimi Tha”, a TV show Conducted by Jaya TV judged by Dr. Padma Subramaniam.
  7. First prizes in other inter school and inter collegiate competitions.

Her performance in other prestigious programmes are:
•  International Dance Alliance Festival, 2003.
•  Bharath Kalachar's Yuva Utsav 2003.
•  Oothukadu Dance Festival, 2003.
•  Salangai Oli's Aadikondar Dance Festival
